The Impact Of An Absent Father - And How We Can Continue To Heal (Part 3)

In this blog series, we continue to discuss the impact of having an absent father. Go here to read part one and part two of this series here. For part three, we’ll focus on who God is as our father.

A Little Recap.

When I Was A Young Girl

Since my dad wasn’t emotionally there for me, I had to be renewed. Trust me, It took really long to fully accept that no one could make me whole apart from God.

Others said "Well it's been so long, I think you should just let it go."

But unless you've experienced not having a father figure, you don't understand the pain one goes through. A part of you is missing and seems like all your life you are chasing after something to fill that void.

Letting Go.

One of the hardest thing is letting go. Whether it’s loss, guilt, anger, or betrayal. Change is never easy. We fight to hold on, and we fight to let go.

God ended up revealing to me what true love of a father looks like through His word. We MUST go to the Bible in order to understand God as a father.

One thing that really stood out to me throughout my healing process- God’s LOVE is the only kind of love that will ever complete me.

With My Father, Who I Love Dearly and When I was young.

How Can We Better Relate To God As Our Father?

Confront the past. I talk about this in the previous blog. But it’s true, no matter how deeply it hurts, you have to confront your past so that you could freely move forward.

Affirmation. This is a process. It takes action. Find out what God says about you. The perfect way to do that is by reading and meditating on God’s word. Without that foundation, everything is shaky. It shapes our identity.

Be aware in regards to your emotions. Why? Because emotions can take you to unhealthy places. Finding someone who you can open up too helps. Especially if this person can help lift you up spiritually.

In the process, God continued to open my eyes about His Heart and who He is.

What Are The Attributes Of God?

What comes to mind when you think about God? Perception is everything.

It's just not enough to follow God, but it is important to really know who He is.

Here are a few of God's attribute's that really stand out to me:

God is FAITHFUL. Everything He has promised will come to pass. He does not lie. Everything He has said in the bible about Himself is true. Jesus even said that He is the Truth. This is extremely important as children of God because it is on His faithfulness that our hope of eternal life rests.

God is INFINITE. He has no measure. He knows no boundaries. This attribute by definition impacts all of the others. Since God is infinite everything else about Him must also be infinite. His love has no boundaries. Romans 8:35,39 explains it well that NOTHING can separate us from His love.

God is LOVE. Many of us have a basic understanding of what love is, but we are unable to comprehend the depths of True love. This is the love that God embodies. God is the genesis of love; He is love Himself. I love 1 John 4:8,16 ( listed below)

God sees. It's terrible to feel abandoned by your loved ones. It's also tough to feel abandoned by God. And this is one of the phases I went through. I didn't see Him there. But the bible reminds us that He is a God who see's everything. I mean EVERYTHING. Even when we are broken. He is El Roi "The God who see's." (Genesis 13:13)

God is such a loving Father. He stretched His arms and met me where I was. He didn't rush me. He simply wrapped me up slowly and hugged me on the inside...where fingers couldn't go. Where no man's love could go.

He redeemed, healed and made me whole.

Feeling Loved And Whole In The Lord

It is indeed a beautiful reminder that:
1. Only He can satisfy.
2. His love runs deep.
3. He is not man. He won’t fail you.
